1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile phone) when you visit a website. They allow the website to recognize your device and remember information about your visit, such as your preferences and login status.

stdRteWeb uses cookies and browser local storage to provide essential functionality and improve your experience.

2. Cookies We Use

stdRteWeb uses only strictly necessary cookies required for the service to function. We do not use marketing, advertising, or tracking cookies from third parties.

2.1 Authentication Cookies (NextAuth.js)

We use NextAuth.js for authentication with VATSIM OAuth. The session token cookie is encrypted and contains:

  • Your VATSIM CID
  • Session expiry timestamp
  • User role (standard user or VATNZ Staff)

These cookies are essential for the service to function. Without them, you cannot log in or access authenticated features.

2.2 Theme Preference

The theme preference is stored in browser local storage (not a cookie) and remembers whether you prefer light mode or dark mode. This is a preference cookie that enhances your experience but is not strictly required for functionality.

2.3 Analytics

We use Vercel Analytics for basic usage statistics (page views, performance metrics). Vercel Analytics is privacy-friendly and does not use cookies or track personal information. See Vercel's Privacy Policy for more information.

3. Managing Cookies

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can:

  • View which cookies are stored on your device
  • Delete existing cookies
  • Block cookies from being set
  • Set preferences for specific websites

Important: If you block or delete essential cookies (NextAuth session tokens), you will not be able to log in to stdRteWeb. The service requires authentication cookies to function.
